mobility video "improving split jerk"

By forma

Today's Mwod is all bout the Split Jerk.

One of the props we like to use a lot is some kind of elevated surface, like a table or jump box.

The stretching with one leg up on an elevated surface has the unique ability to keep the other leg on the ground, and by extension your back in neutral. I'm always amazed when I see otherwise enlightened athletes horking on their backs to mobilize some other body part. Not cool.

Keep your back in neutral, especially in mobs that potentially bias the athlete into overextension.

Mobility Video "shoulder"

Today we are going to begin with a very simple mobilization of shoulder extension. There are a billion ways to work this, but you'll find this is easy.
Test: Some kind of dip/loaded shoulder extension
Mob:
Re-test: Loaded dip/Bonus: does it change the pushup?
Homework: Wiki the muscles of the rotator cuff. The overly simple version is that some turn the arm out, and some turn the arm in. See if you can figure out on a loved one where the external rotators are.

Mobility Video "hip flexors"

By forma

Today we are going to delve back into hip extension with a bit more focus on the big hip flexors that attach to the spine. Be clear, we are still going after hip extension, but we are
de-emphasizing the musculature of the front of the thigh and we are going a bit higher.
If you are that guy that wakes up in the morning with a sore back, this could be you.
We can't stretch the psoas directly, but we can bias it with specific movements.

mobility video "tight calves"

By forma

If you have pain in a joint like say, your knee. A good place to start mobilizing is right above and below the knee. Say what? Yes, your calf actually crosses your ankle AND your knee. And as such it can cause knee dysfunction. Knee Pain? Start with your calves for example.

Tight calves:

1) Can cause knee pain

2) Limit your movement options in the bottom of movements like the split jerk  and the squat.

3) Can be one of the causes of a heel cord rupture.
